Snow, Part One

We are expecting a LOT of snow (for us... 10 inches!) NEXT Monday... but last night we got about an inch, and the city freaked out like it usually does over one inch of snow. I've lived here my whole life, and we do this every time. The snow didn't stick to the roads, so almost nothing closed or delayed (also, we know to expect our own little snowpocalypse next week, so I think the schools had that in mind... don't want to close over one non-sticking inch when there are ten inches to come).

Anyway, snow is still pretty cool (ha... because it's freezing, get it?).

Ipo's butt is probably a little chilly...

Snuggling up in my cowl so we can start scraping off my car and get to work!

Whale Mural

I pointed out that the whale mural from the same intersection as the doesn't-look-like-a-ship ship picture would be a better shot... so here it is!

Norfolk and Geese

Ipo went to Norfolk with me a couple days ago to attend a meeting, and I got the chance to get the elusive ship photo I try to get with all my LVs (even though it's not really that great a shot). There's a big ship right at the end of the road I take to leave Norfolk, so if I'm lucky enough to stop at that red light and be first in line, I can get a decent shot of it, but its still between two buildings so you have to know what you're looking at.

Like I said... you sort of have to know what you're looking at. But I promise there's a ship there. It might have been a better use of my time at the red light to get a shot of the big, beautiful mural of whales just to the left. But hey, we're going back for another meeting tomorrow! So we'll try again.

Then, back at the Virginia Beach campus...

Geese, geese, everywhere! I don't dare get too close, because I've never had a run-in with an angry goose and I don't intend to. They're a noisy, pushy lot, too!

I also found out that I get to go present at a conference in Portland, OR... but it's a few weeks after Ipo has to go home, so he won't get to join me. And I don't think I'll have a new LV by then, but maybe Anana can make the trip.

William and Mary

Yesterday, we ventured up to Williamsburg so I could get trained in being a "Black Belt Librarian" (it's a program to learn techniques and approaches for dealing with security risks in your library) at The College of William and Mary, which is just gorgeous. I wish we had had more time to wander and explore, but we had to leave quickly after the training to get me back in time for my desk shift.

Work

It isn't very exciting around here right now, because classes started back up on Monday, so we're very busy at work with things that aren't too exciting to photograph. So Ipo is hanging out on my desk, watching me work, for the most part.

We have some fun and photographable things coming up during the next few days, though!

3D Printing

We have a 3D printer in our library now, and I went to training to learn how to use it. We made nameplates for ourselves:

It was super fun to design and learn and watch the printer make things! We'll probably be doing more of this in the future so we know how to help patrons once it's available to the public.

New Year's Eve (and Christmas Decorations)

Every year, we make a big fondue dinner for our friends for New Year's Eve. It works out nicely because fondue can drag out and keeps us busy until midnight!

I got fancy this year and folded napkins, with Ipo's help.

The table, set and ready to go. Ipo is doing his finest imitation of fondue.

The rest of the night gets insanely busy, what with chopping up fruits and vegetables, melting cheese and chocolate, switching out cheese for meat for chocolate and then making sure everyone has champagne before midnight, so there aren't any other photos, but it was a lovely time for all.

In other news, I was sick for about a week up to Christmas (Ipo makes a wonderful nurse, by the way) so I don't have many photos of what we got up to around then, but I do have him posing with our Christmas decorations:

I only have two Christmas houses: my grandmother's library (left) and a bookshop my Dad got for me.

The Santa hat is a little too big for Ipo.

My husband ordered this beautiful necklace from PhoenixFireDesigns, fellow LV swapper!

So, very belated merry Christmas, and only slightly belated happy new year!
